Song

Strutter is the first track off KISS' self-titled first album. A very popular song, it is still played live alot today. “Strutter” became a 3:09 powerhouse on the debut album and is far more polished than the original demo version, as would be expected from being properly recorded in the studio. The loss of nearly 2 minutes of the song during the transition from demo to album cut, resulted in the ending extended solo and a section of verse music being cut out of the song. This made the song something of an edit, though it was punchier, and if nothing else, more refined.

In their own words[]

Paul Stanley: "Strutter was written when the band was a trio. Peter Gene and I. Gene and I used to show up at rehearsals and just write music for this new band we were forming called KISS".

"Lyrically, Strutter was my ongoing fascination with women in the New York glitter scene. In some ways it was a sister song to Black Diamond".

Gene Simmons: "Our music is very honest, gut-level, straight-ahead stuff. When your talking about a strutter your not talking about other levels of reality"

Lyrics[]

I know a thing or two about her

I know shell only make you cry

Shell let you walk the street beside her

But when she wants shell pass you by

Everybody says shes lookin good

And the lady knows its understood

Strutter

She wears her satins like a lady

She gets her way just like a child

You take her home and she says maybe, baby

She takes you down and drives you wild

Everybody says shes lookin good

And the lady knows its understood

Strutter

I know a thing or two about her

I know shell only make you cry

Shell let you walk the street beside her

But when she wants, shell pass you by

Everybody says shes lookin good

And the lady knows its understood

Strutter
